Either a certain personal mellowing is setting in, or standards of performance are rising, for 2006 brought me a bumper crop of musical highlights.
Part of the reason is the excellent education provided by devoted teachers in schools and local authority music services, continued in conservatoires and universities.
Some of my most treasured musical memories of 2006 reflect this, beginning in February with the Symphony Hall debut of the CBSO Youth Orchestra, including a stunning Elgar Enigma Variations conducted by Sakari Oramo.
