Stratford-on-Avon's music festival, opening tomorrow night, has gone through several incarnations over the decades.
For many years it enlivened the town as a general arts festival for two or three weeks in early summer, and even, on one famous occasion, extended hands across the North Sea to Denmark, with an interchange between the Mayors of Stratford and Copenhagen.
