Last night the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra played one of Shostakovich's heftiest symphonies (his Eighth) at Symphony Hall, and they will be doing so again tonight.
At lunchtime today, however, five of the orchestra members will be tackling one of the most demanding yet most sheerly beautiful works in the chamber music repertoire, the great C major String Quintet by Schubert.
