Two years ago the highlight of my reviewing year was the amazingly mature complete Ring cycle brought to Symphony Hall by the remarkable National Youth Orchestra of Ireland. The way these youngsters responded with such enthusiasm and professionalism to Wagner's searching, stamina-sapping score was both gratifying and moving, matched by the equally dedicated involvement of a fine international body of professional singers, the whole presentation marshalled under the wise and generous baton of the Russian maestro Alexander Anissimov.
