Opera remains very much to the fore in the next few days, with a reminder that Chisinau National Opera returns to Birmingham's Alexandra Theatre tonight with the much-loved double-bill of Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Leoncavallo's Pagliacci (7.30pm, details on 0870 607 7544).

Italian opera is also on offer tonight at Symphony Hall (7.30pm), when the CBSO opens its 2004-05 season with a concert performance of Puccini's dramatically lurid Tosca. Interest will focus on the opportunity to savour more of the composer's ...
