Sounds probably never before heard in Lichfield Cathedral will resonate round the ancient building on Monday when the Latin text of the Mass for the Dead combines with the aboriginal tones of the didgeridoo.

Joining the CBSO and Ex Cathedra for the European premiere of the Requiem by Tasmanian-born composer Peter Sculthorpe will be William Barton, virtuoso on this instrument which is capable of far more than the simplistic drones we remember from Rolf Harris' Sun Arise pop song of decades ago.
