I couldn't help feeling a stab of envy when my parents-in-law announced that they were leaving for an eight-week trip to South America and New Zealand. I relish my domestic responsibilities but there is a part of me that identifies wholly with this poem by the American poet Edna St Vincent Millay, which is about the romance of the unknown destination. I read somewhere that the act of buying a ticket was as effective at reducing stress levels as actually going away, so perhaps I should just buy an open return to Buenos Aires and keep it as a talisman ...
