This latest number in Norton's renowned 'Critical Edition' series is unusual because it has two texts. The first text (the A Text) of the 1590 play dates from 1604 and has 1,517 lines: it is as near to what Marlow wrote as we can get. The second text (the B Text) dates from 1616 and includes an extra 600 lines written, at least in part, by William Bird and Samuel Rowley. It also has seen some lines removed to conform with new censorship ...
