Tragical History Of Doctor Faustus: Act II
Act II: Scene One
Faustus is seen in his study meditating upon the awful consequences of
his bargain. Alone on stage, he delivers a soliloquy which reveals to the
audience the inner turmoil of his soul. Despair, the ultimate sin for the
Christian, leads Faustus forward on his road to eternal damnation; appetite
and "Belzebub" have become Faustus's new gods. Though something sounds in his
ear which seems to call him back from his damned course, Faustus is resolute
