The Charles Lamb 16 Elia Street, N1 (020 7837 5040) . Open Mon- Tues 4 - 11pm; Wed-Sun noon-midnight

The Charles Lamb is tucked away in residential Islington, and manages to combine the twin roles of local pub and eating house with aplomb.

There is decent draught beer (Fuller's Chiswick, Timothy Taylor's Landlord and guests), some interesting bottled ones and an easygoing selection of wines. It may not be a boozer but it is definitely still a pub complete with dog and the bonus of sound food should hunger pangs strike.
