VOTED Britain's favourite poem, If was penned by Rudyard Kipling in 1910. It was written to celebrate people who could realise their dreams and take triumphs and failures in their stride without complaining. Here, Mirror columnist Tony Parsons puts a modern spin on the classic. Parsons said he decided to tackle If because "it's the most perfect poem in the English language". He added: "It's too perfect to improve on really, but I thought I'd write a new version to help my brothers through these troubled times."
