RUDYARD KIPLING would be amazed if he went out to dinner these days. East may be East, and West may be West, but the twain have definitely met over the menu. The only thing is, they seem to have messed up the directions. "Pan-Asian," "Pacific Rim," "fusion" - these culinary descriptions are meant to be enticing, but to the novice diner, they can be disorienting. And they're not so straightforward to the chefs, either.
