RUDYARD Kipling wrote "If" more than a century ago, and you know what? It's probably more relevant today than it was then. Every student should study it.

Certainly every boy. "Manhood training" isn't part of the California curriculum. Too bad.

Say what you will about the draft. Whether it's necessary, fair or moral is debatable. But, back in its day, it did do one pretty cool thing. It threw together all kinds of men from all sorts of places.

The draft forced guys to learn from each other. The "Greatest Generation," the men who came of age during World War II, didn't get great living ...
