A reading by UK actor Douglas Hodge of poet John Keats' Elgin Marbles sonnet is analyzed by computer. The computer-aided analysis is part of an encompassing study of the nature of the rhythmical performance of poetry. Verse lines delivered by the actor in certain instances are investigated including some of the vocal devices that he used to make the delivery rhythmical. Also discussed are some fundamentals of the rhythmical performance of poetry which are essential to evaluating readings where different vocal manipulations are employed.
