John Keats' inclusion of two of his less acclaimed poems in his 1820 compilation was motivated by the personal significance that they had for him. 'Lines on the Mermaid Tavern' and 'Robin Hood' were part of Keats' poetic dialog with his friend Reynolds. The poems, read in their specific social context, reveal Keats' disenchantment with the power wielded by money over the arts. These poems also reveal Keats' commitment to pursue an artistic ideal. 'Robin Hood is significant in that it asserts Keats commitment in the context of the real material world rather than an imaginary world.
