The suggestion that Keats drew on James Thomson when composing the closing line of "To Autumn" has not aroused any consternation (Vendler 322). The situations are similar, and Keats echoes the crucial verb twitter: "And gathering swallows twitter in the skie" (361). Thomson had described the "swallow-people":
