John V. "Bumpa" Keats Jr. of Malden, a retired MBTA worker, died April 30 in his home after a short illness. He was 63.
Mr. Keats was born in Revere and attended Malden public schools. He was a 1960 graduate of Malden High School, where he was captain of the basketball and football teams. He attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas for two years on a basketball scholarship.
He returned to Malden and married his high school sweetheart, Joyce E. (Sanborn) Keats in September 1962. The couple lived in Everett and later settled in Malden to raise six children.
