Endymion: Introduction:
In "Endymion," written from April to November, 1817, and published as a
separate volume in 1818, Keats continues a number of the quests begun in
"I Stood Tip-Toe," in particular, the quest for the meaning of the myth of
Endymion, and the quest for his own poetic identity. "That which is creative
must create itself," Keats wrote to his publisher in October, 1818, and in
"Endymion" we see the poet attempting - not always with success - to create
himself, to achieve full maturity of poetic insight and expression, through
