"Poetry had been like dress up for me, and while it was becoming more important in my life, I was unsure of what that could mean," writes Kathleen Norris in "The Virgin of Bennington."

What it came to mean was that Norris became a bona fide poet and writer, known to us today for such bestsellers as "Amazing Grace: A Vocabulary of Faith," "The Cloister Walk" and "Dakota."
