As Margaret Thatcher famously said, paraphrasing Karl Marx: "You can't buck the market."
If First Great Western can charge five times as much for a journey from Bristol towards London as for an equivalent journey from Bristol down to the West Country that is what they do, as Rob Campbell has found out (Info Jungle, June 19).
Unregulated rail travel is not sold in the same way as string or timber but by what the market will stand. First Great Western is not a charity, but a business, and its business is to maximise its profits.
