Cuba's ruling Marxists are finally distancing themselves from their hero, Karl Marx--even going so far as to remove his venerated name from one of the island's largest cement plants.
The once-aging, inefficient factory along Cuba's south central coast is now known as Cementos Cienfuegos S.A., after the joint venture which is 50% owned by Cemvid, a unit of Cuba's Ministry of Basic Industry, and 50% by Las Pailas de Cemento S.A., a Spanish company controlled by a private investment bank.
