NOAH ADAMS, Host: During this past year on this program, we brought
you the story of an urban high school trying to change. The school
we chose, Taft High School in Chicago, didn't have much success with
educational reform. Test scores and attendance declined throughout
the year, and by the end of our series the principal who had spearheaded
the reform effort had quit the Chicago schools in frustration. In
the upcoming year, we'll report on another school trying to restructure.
This time it's a grammar school. Washington Irving Elementary is
