Strawberry Hill House, the 18th-century Gothick villa created by politician and novelist Horace Walpole, has received a 4.6 million [pounds sterling] grant for restoration from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Horace, the son of Sir Robert Walpole, acquired the 'castle' near Twickenham, west London, in 1747,and refurbished and transformed it over four decades. Strawberry Hill was listed on the World Monuments Fund's' 100 Most Endangered Sites in the World' as well as English Heritage's 'Buildings at Risk Register'.
