Strawberry Hill, near Twickenham, about ten miles west of the centre of London. Horace Walpole settled there in 1747, and with advice from his friends Chute and Richard Bentley transformed it into ‘a little Gothic castle’, housing in it his collection of articles of virtu, and establishing in 1757 a private press.
