Honore de Balzac (1799-1850) is considered one of the greatest fiction writers of all time. In his youth he told his father that he proposed to give his life to literature and become an author. His father knew the risks and rewards of authorship.
"If you become an author," he said "and if you take literature as your career, you will either be a beggar or a king."
