Growing up out West, "barbecue" was used as a verb, as in "Let's barbecue some hamburgers." But I learned when I was in college in North Carolina that "barbecue" is considered a noun, as in "Let's go get some barbecue." Having overcome that distinction, I then discovered that the feud between the Hatfields and McCoys was nothing compared to the territorial claims about where the best barbecue is offered.
The folks in Forest City think their brand is the only one edible; same for those from Lexington and Wilson. This claim to superiority in the Barbecue Wars goes further; ...
