Henry James's novel 'The Ambassadors' is observed to portray several Shakespearean themes. For instance, a discretely Shakespearean word, 'multitudinous,' is used upon the first sighting of Mrs. Newsome's prodigal son, Chad. Likewise, Strether states that his arranging of marriages makes his hands more 'embrued,' a word identified as another variant of the Shakespearean work, 'imbrue,' which occurs in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' In addition, Strether's definition of judgment and his contradictory yet elusive viewpoint bring to mind Hamlet's delay.
