For Drew and Shannon Hayden, the dining room had to go.
The space had served as a playroom for their children, and later, as a formal eating area that they used only a few times a year. When the Newton residents recently began designing a new house from the ground up, they decided to replace the dining room with a library that doubled as a formal eating space, and they incorporated a breakfast nook into the family room.
