Catherine, meanwhile, behaves rather strangely, from Dr. Sloper's point
of view. "She will do as I have bidden her" says the Doctor. Catherine has
meanwhile not seen Morris; she has written him a long letter, of five pages.
The import of it is that she wishes he will not visit her at home until she
has thought further about the situation. Morris replies with violent
protestations of love, and a wish to rescue her from her "cruel slavery."
Catherine again replies, more briefly, that she is in great torment
