Washington Square: Sections 1 - 6
The structure and format of Washington Square in part have their origins
undoubtedly from the book's original publication in serial form. It was
published in Cornhill Magazine and in Harper's New Monthly Magazine during
July-November, 1880, republished in book form in Boston later that same year,
and has since been published in a number of editions, including the Dell
Laurel paperback edition [1959] which also includes the novelette The
Europeans.
