Three nights later Isabel and Pansy, without Osmond, went to a party.
There, while Pansy was dancing with a young man, Edward Rosier came up to
Isabel to speak with her. Rosier naturally wanted to speak of Pansy, but
Isabel gave him little encouragement. When Pansy finished her dance and was
coming back to Isabel, Rosier left her company, satisfied with a flower from
the bouquet of Pansy that Isabel had been holding. While another young man
