Henry James's "Preface" And Other Comments On The Story:

Henry James wrote a series of prefaces for a collected edition of his
novels reissued by Charles Scribner's between 1907 and 1917. This collection
is referred to as The New York Edition. In these prefaces he reviewed his
problems in writing his works and many times pointed to special devices that
