Henry James was a widely respected American writer. He is remembered
mainly for his 20 novels, but he also wrote plays, short stories,
and essays. James was born in New York City to a family that valued
education highly. His brother, William James, was a famous philosopher
and psychologist. The family traveled widely in Europe when Henry
was a child.
