Oct. 26--Why would the life of Hans Christian Andersen -- a celebrated Danish writer -- be told through dance? It may be more apropos than you'd think. When Andersen left his hometown of Odense, Denmark, at age 14, he didn't travel to Copenhagen to become a writer. Rather, his dream was to become a ballet dancer or actor at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. He enrolled in classes at the Royal Danish Ballet School, where he met August Bournonville, the celebrated Danish choreographer.
