In fairy-tale-like scene, Crown Prince Frederik made Chilean novelist Isabel Allende a goodwill ambassador for the upcoming Hans Christian Andersen bicentennial, giving her a gold pin and plate in a ceremony Thursday at a picturesque Dutch Renaissance castle.

"A prince, a real prince, has awarded me with a prize in a real fairy tale castle," Allende said, prompting laughter from the 200 guests who gathered inside the ornate Knights' Hall in the castle, which dates back to 1606.
