Three books of an 18-volume collection of Hans Christian Andersen's complete works were published Monday, the first time since 1879 that all the famed Danish writer's fairy tales, novels, poetry and other musings were made available.

The Danish-language collection comes as Denmark prepares to mark the writer's 200th birthday in 2005. There are no plans to publish the series in English.

Andersen is known worldwide for his fairy tale classics "The Ugly Duckling," "The Emperor's New Clothes" and "The Little Mermaid," among others.
