Large paper cut by Hans Christian Andersen auctioned

Dateline: COPENHAGEN, Denmark The largest known paper cut ever made by Hans Christian Andersen that eventually was pasted into a first edition by the Danish fairy tale writer was sold for 520,000 kroner (US$69,000) at an auction Monday.

The Copenhagen-based Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers of Fine Art had estimated the cut and the first edition to be worth as much as 150,000 kroner (US$20,000).

"We are happy that we got it," said Torben Groengaard Jeppesen of the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. "We are not surprised at all that the bids went that high up."
