Three Danish soccer greats to be Hans Christian Andersen ambassadors

Three of Denmark's soccer greats will be appointed Tuesday as ambassadors of a foundation that celebrates the life of author Hans Christian Andersen.

Strikers Brian Laudrup and Preben Elkjaer and goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel will join more than 160 local and international celebrities already chosen to promote the bicentenary of the Danish fairy tale writer's birth.

Other sports ambassadors include Brazilian great Pele, Italy defender Paolo Maldini and Australian Olympic gold medalist Cathy Freeman.
