MONTGOMERY, Ala. Frances Scott "Scottie" Fitzgerald Smith, the only child of author F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda, died yesterday in her home here of cancer. She was 64.
Mrs. Smith, also a writer, worked for New Yorker magazine and later for the Washington Post and New York Times.
She and Matthew Bruccoli were co-authors of The Romantic Egoists, a journal of clippings and photographs from her parents' lives.
Her father was a giant in 20th century American literature. Among his novels were The Great Gatsby, Tender Is the Night and The Last Tycoon.
