A hardy perennial for summer, plenty of designers went overboard this season for the classic combination of crisp shirts, wide trousers and sporty stripes. Chic right down to its Coco Chanel- inspired leather sandals, the classic look evokes bygone eras of wealth and privilege when hours were spent messing about on yachts, between games of tennis, seriously vicious croquet matches and jugs of Pimms.

In the real world, a G&T down the Hogshead is probably as classy as it's likely to get but, hey, in these ensembles, you'll at least look the part of a Fitzgerald heroine. Go on, pass the scampi ...
