Therese Raquin was in the air last fall. Not only did Emile Zola's grim 19th-century Parisian tale of lust, murder and suicide reach the Broadway stage as the musical Thou Shalt Not, with a score by Harry Connick Jr., it reached the operatic stage through the Dallas Opera world premiere of Tobias Picker's third opera. A possible movie adaptation has even reportedly attracted the interest of actress Kate Winslett.
