PARIS - In the hallowed Pantheon where his ashes lay, author Emile Zola was honored yesterday by Prime Minister Lionel Jospin as setting an example for people today by defending Jewish army captain Alfred Dreyfus 100 years ago.

The ceremony was among several commemorations this week of Zola's famous 1898 article "J'Accuse," which successfully argued that Dreyfus was framed as a spy by a French military looking for scapegoats.

Jospin called article by the celebrated author "a cry by an appalled conscience" and "a thunderclap" in the Dreyfus Affair. He said it is ...
