And native son Henry David Thoreau?

Yes, but perhaps not for long, say preservationists.

The white clapboard house where Thoreau was born still stands. But the privately owned home and the 18.4 acres of prime land its sits on are up for sale.

Now a campaign is under way to save the property from developers.
