It's just a happy coincidence that the Shadow Theatre Company production of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill is at the Ralph Waldo Emerson Center.

There's more pleasant symmetry between artistic director Jeffrey Nickelson's love of jazz and the musical nature of his current production.

But the circumstances that led Nickelson to believe Mary Louise Lee was the woman to become Billie Holiday for the musical retelling of the great singer's life were tragic.
