Matthew Barber's stage adaptation of Elizabeth von Arnim's novel Enchanted April is the kind of escapist entertainment which the Walnut Street Theatre usually excels at. Unfortunately director Malcolm Black's production is as emotionally bare as it is visually sumptuous. Set in the early 1920s, the play focuses on Lotty (Alicia Roper) and Rose (Maureen Garrett), a pair of English housewives who've grown tired of their tedious husbands and the perpetually gray London winter.
