The program for "Enchanted April," the new play at the Belasco Theatre, says it is adapted from a 1922 novel by Elizabeth von Arnim, but of course the real inspiration for the show is the warmly remembered 1992 movie of the same title. Like so many other "new" projects on Broadway these days, this one is an attempt to capitalize on the appeal of a familiar product from another medium -- a Broadway variation on what marketing people call a brand extension.
