Based on a 1920 novel by pre-feminist writer Elizabeth von Arnim, "Enchanted April" is the story of four English women (played by Josie Lawrence, Miranda Richardson, Polly Walker and Joan Plowright) who feel trapped by the men, living and dead, in their lives. Their solution: a month in another country, specifically, April in an idyllic Italian castle. (The film is now playing in Chicago at the Fine Arts.)
