IT HAS captured the imagination of children for a century, and now a nine-day celebration in York will pay homage to the Railway Children.
The National Railway Museum will be marking 100 years since Edith Nesbit's heartwarming tale was first published in London Magazine in 1905.
It was published in book form a year later and has not been out of print since.
During the nine-day celebration, which starts tomorrow, visitors will have the chance to step on the footplate of the locomotive Lord Mayor, used in the 1970 film inspired by the novel.
