This weekend, fans of The Railway Children will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its publication, but life for its author Edith Nesbit was far from a fairytale.
Sarah Freeman reports.
The picture of Jenny Agutter dressed in a white smock and standing on Oakworth Station has become an iconic image of cinema history.
When The Railway Children first played to audiences in 1970, the tale of three children forced to leave London for Yorkshire when their father mysteriously disappears, captured the imagination of a whole generation and ensured the children's classic would remain a firm favourite.
