I grew up reading Edgar Rice Burroughs' fanciful tales of an English lord raised by wild apes, then shifted gears to Hemingway, Robert Ruark and, eventually, Peter Capstick. I read every story that I saw about hunting the Big Five -- elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo.
